I know the area very well and couldn’t agree more. It still could be developed into something however it will not be an RV storage. I am in hopes that whatever is eventually put there is more visually appealing than very large steel buildings.

No amount of landscaping will block the view of large expanses of concrete an warehouse style roofs from those homes. I don’t live there but I know people who do and have seen the view from above.

Just wanted to let you know the planning commission found that the project did not fit in C1 not even with a conditional use permit rejecting the planning directors recommendation.November 28, 2013 at 1:43 pm #1317allenParticipant@MtnMax at 1:48 pm 11/28/2013 – Other than this technical zoning thing you are dwelling on, it seems we pretty much agree with everything else. There is no specific zone for RV storage except on agricultural property.

I know this property will be developed and no I don’t want big box but it is within the confines of the zoning. I agree Ebbetts pass Lumber has most everything necessary to live here and I wish we had more local shops. I have been here for many years and I also came here to escape the congestion down below.
November 28, 2013 at 12:12 pm #1315allenParticipantIt’s not like that small area will take away enough land area to effect wildlife. The wildlife would be better off away from Highway 4 anyway. I’ve not seen any RV storage units along freeways but I haven’t lived where there are a lot of freeways (thank goodness). I moved up here to get away from box stores. Ebbetts Pass Lumber has just about anything I need in the way of lumber and between Ace, True Value, and online I manage to find anything else I need. Besides that, a Wal-Mart or a Home Depot would take away business from local stores. There’s not enough empty stores in Arnold now to suit you?
November 28, 2013 at 11:23 am #1313MtnMaxParticipantThe area in question is teaming with wildlife. There are countless numbers of deer, bobcats, bears, coyotes and even Mountain lions. As for the big box store you brought up at least it would be more useful to the entire community and fit the zoning. Although it would be a shame.

If you like brown brush along the side of the road (hardly “wildlife” and only a handful of trees) that’s your choice. A Wal-Mart or a Home Depot is an eyesore, and the unimproved property currently there is an eyesore. We’ve also had a 33 foot RV and never had a problem driving it with a tow vehicle. I suppose we will have to agree to disagree. There’s a public review of the negative declaration from September 6th through October 7th. Don’t forget to submit your written comment. I know I won’t. We’ve had rigs and RVs and more than understand what kind of a serious hazard this would cause at this location. Doesn’t matter if someone’s driving the speed limit or less. This is a really bad idea and a blatant disregard for the building/usage codes not to mention a horrible eyesore. If you think ugly industrial storage buildings are better looking that trees, brush and wildlife — that’s your choice. I challenge you to drive a 38′ Class A motorhome towing a small car to make an attempt to enter Hwy 4 going down the hill from the Forest Meadows entrance. Good luck with that. November 28, 2013 at 8:21 am #1307allenParticipantNot sure what you are referring to about Forest Meadows. Your post isn’t very clear on that. Highway 4 is a two lane highway and we should all drive accordingly. I for one do not want to see it (Highway 4) made into a freeway. Everyone in BTV should have a vested interest in this development. If you own an RV or boat, you would have the option of storing it there. If you don’t own a boat or RV, then maybe some of your neighbors would store their boat or RV instead of keeping it at their cabins in BTV.
I find it hard to believe this would cause a traffic problem or road hazard in the proposed area.

This is a blatant misuse of zoning and this type of storage for RVs etc. Just a bad idea. Comments about not caring about those that live in Forest Meadows are disrespectful and I wonder if people that are for this idea own property or a business here. Excluding those that have a vested interest in the proposed development of course! Thanks Joe for the post.
November 27, 2013 at 11:36 am #1293allenParticipantIf I had it my way, both mini-storage and RV & boat storage would be changed to C1. They don’t create enough traffic to warrant C2 zoning. Just my two cents, again.
