As I’ve indicated elsewhere, the basic hardware for the snow depth measurement project is on order. It consists of an ultrasonic sensor, a raspberry Pi 3 micro computer and various power supplies and other items needed to get things running (more on that in a subsequent post once everything arrives).
The first step will be to get the Raspberry Pi running and configured. I will be using Python for all of the programming and MySQL for data storage and remote access to that data. Once that is up and running, the next step will be to access and process the data using an extension of the program I have working with the weather station and camera images.
An alternative that I may pursue is to process the snow depth measurement data directly on the same microcomputer where the data is collected and send it directly up to BigTreesTech. I’ll sort out which approach to use once I have the data successfully being collected and stored in the database.
