Bark Beetle Pest Control

We have heard from someone we trust that the bark beetle treatment is 1) only a deterrent and 2) is only good for about 30 days and 3) is not effective for an tree that is already infested. Apparently there is some sort of treatment, involving injection of insecticide into the tree that might be effective but it requires significant irrigation of the tree which is illegal under the current drought conditions.
Best to call a real pro and get the straight skinny and a guarantee.

We have received a couple of advertisements from local pest control companies about treating trees for bark beetles. I know bark beetles are becoming a serious problem and we have lost some very nice trees to them. Has anyone had experience with the treatment? Specifically, how is it applied, has it worked, what are the risks to wildlife (woodpeckers/other birds that may eat bark beetles, beneficial insects, or other creatures that live in the trees) and/or humans, types of trees that should be treated (pine, fir, incense cedar, etc.), how long will it last, and anything else you can provide. Thanks.
