We are on Shastan (Unit 1) and can only send/receive text messages. The Verizon service goes through Golden State Cellular, and getting to the voice-mail messages is a little complicated (look on-line at Golden State, I left the instructions up at the house).

At our place (Shoshone near Meko) unless I happen to hit the EXACT spot in the bedroom that sometimes erratically gets one bar, my phone is in constant “searching for service” mode. I wish Verizon would allow their network extender again in Dorrington. We had great service with that. The Verizon map says we should have service at our cabin, but we don’t.

You will really like the S4! I got an S3 2.5 months ago; first smartphone. Use it all the time (too much)! Took a 28 day trip to Europe in Oct-Nov, and it was our camera. It can get addicting, as you see wherever you go! Have fun!- This reply was modified 11 years ago by ebaker.

The young men who worked at Radio Shack were enthralled when I pulled out my old “not so smart” phone with a slide out keyboard. I figure the phone is almost as old as they are.
Now it’s on to figure out how this thing works…

Great connection until they got all the way under the house. Fine outside under the deck. We’re on Walapar, just off Ottawa.

December 23, 2013 at 10:18 am #1466caleachParticipantIf you have AT&T service you can get a microcell from them and it hooks into your internet connection and creates a mini cell environment in your home. We’ve neeb using it successfully for a couple of years now.
It is limited to just in and around the house though.
December 23, 2013 at 7:07 am #1464rswheeler1ParticipantI have a Verizon LG Accolade which is a basic cell phone. I have relatively good coverage on Hoopa Circle.
ScottDecember 23, 2013 at 5:48 am #1463bigtreestechmanKeymasterWe are on Kenshaw and have no coverage.

Put in the ZIP code, zoom in and scroll around. Map is pretty accurate but the only sure way is to try a Verizon or Golden State phone. No 4 LTE up here and 3G is very slow for Internet. You’ll still need broadband wifi for the Internet even if phone service works at your location.
December 22, 2013 at 9:11 pm #1460ndamicoParticipantVerizon or Golden State are your only options. a wilson booster can help improve the signal as well.
December 22, 2013 at 8:52 pm #1459ebakerParticipantLast summer, for the first time since we’ve had cell phones, we had coverage at our BTV cabin! It was kinda spotty but usually good enough on the deck to make and receive calls. We also have Verizon, and in November I got my first smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy S3 (the S4 is newer and better). I’m anxious to see how it works up there. We had been able to use our Verizon dumb phones in Arnold and below for quite a while. I’m pretty sure AT&T does not have coverage in BTV, or even in Arnold.
December 22, 2013 at 8:02 pm #1458ladyknitterParticipantWe do have cell phone coverage, we use Verizon. I’m pretty sure we are in the minority. It’s a matter of location. You would need to try it out at your home.
December 22, 2013 at 4:38 pm #1457phillygirlParticipantHi,
I plan to trade in my old cell phone (ATT service) for a smart phone. Can you tell me if you have coverage in Big Trees and, if so, which provider you’re using?
Thanks.
