We have Comcast Basic TV and connect directly to the incoming cable without any box.
That way we are able to get all the stations in high def, though on different channels.Well, we just got a notice that starting in mid Sept, Comcast will be scrambling the Basic Cable, so we will have to use their digital converter and lose our high def picture…….unless, of course, we want to rent THEIR high def equipment every month… :
We have basic cable without using a cable box too. Did they say when they were going to start scrambling basic cable? I'm going to miss HDTV. Guess I might dump cable TV and watch only streaming video from Netflix and Amazon. Too bad I have to keep Comcast's ridiculously overpriced Internet.

I also seem to remember some limitations to the type of service you could get with that box, unless they've changed things.

All went well and I think the WiFi signal is stronger than what I have been used to. I also plugged in my MicroCell, after having renamed the network and reset the password, and it's all good.My next task is to try to hook up an IP camera, which as many of you know, has proven a challenge for me, partly as a Mac user.
Will keep all posted on my efforts.

Not if the internet is not working or I could bundle my phone and internet and only pay x hundreds of dollars.Ahhhh, that's my favorite recording. Something like, "Did you know you can find answers at comcast.com?" Definitely a candidate for a Darwin award!

September 6, 2013 at 4:31 pm #546AnonymousInactiveMy Comcast has been down almost every afternoon and sometimes does not come back up until the next day. They are suppose to come out Saturday and check it out.
At least that is what I hope happens after I turned down all of the sales pitches the guy give me when I called them for a service call. The best pitch was did I know I could use chat on my computer to fix my problem. Not if the internet is not working or I could bundle my phone and internet and only pay x hundreds of dollars.
