I absolutely agree that the zoning code is a mess. However it is what it is and yes we should visit updating and revising it. For now it is what we have and we have to work within it’s confines. Otherwise we will have a complete mess.
November 27, 2013 at 8:48 am #1287allenParticipantI have no idea why RV storage should be zoned A1 which is primarily for agriculture. Perhaps our zoning code needs to be changed. I’m afraid I don’t agree with your assessment of HWY issues. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
I am editing this in an attempt to put this post in chronological order.
November 27, 2013 at 8:45 am #1286allenParticipantDeleted. These posts are not in chronological order and I was try to fix it. Didn’t work.

November 27, 2013 at 7:13 am #1281MtnMaxParticipantRV/Mini storage is allowed in C2 zoning. However the developer specifically specified that their would not be mini storage just boat/RV which changes its designation. The reason he did this is to avoid being required to address the HWY Traffic issues. I understand that you have an opinion but just because you don’t like an area doesn’t mean we should snub our at the zoning code. If he would like to put this here he should at the very least be required to rezone the property.

November 27, 2013 at 7:05 am #1280MtnMaxParticipantSimply because if they allow it there. Where will the next huge ugly building be built perhaps in your neighborhood. Look around I am sure that there is similar zoning near you. And quote from the county code A1 12C it lists RV storage as an approved use with no conditional use required.
November 26, 2013 at 11:30 pm #1277allenParticipantThe main purpose of A1 zoning is General Agriculture. RV storage is a “conditional use” of A1.
The main purpose of C1 zoning is Local Commercial. Parking is a “permitted use” of C1.
Safari Mobile Home Park in Avery which also has outdoor RV storage is zoned U (unclassified).
The outdoor RV storage in Angels Camp (if it’s still there) is zoned RA (residential agriculture) and M1 (light industrial).
And MtnMax, you said:

Not to mention the Property values for the poor folks in forest meadows….

Why should I care what the property values are in Forest Meadows? I wouldn’t live down there if they gave me a place!Yes, T. Web, I agree. It appears someone has something personal going on here. This someone wants an RV storage facility zoned for agricultural use rather than local commercial use. Go figure….

November 26, 2013 at 5:34 pm #1275T. WebParticipantI think it’s great as long as they really put strong minds to gather and create well thought out landscaping. I for one am in need of a RV storage space. They have my vote!
November 26, 2013 at 5:14 pm #1273MtnMaxParticipantLook I am not opposed to this property being developed. I just want it to be done appropriately. Throwing out the zoning code to suit the developers needs is not appropriate here or anywhere else for that matter.
November 26, 2013 at 5:08 pm #1272MtnMaxParticipantThe appropriate zoning for this facility is A1
November 26, 2013 at 12:53 pm #1271allenParticipantOK, I see PX is off site parking. So we have Meadowmont and Applewood both with C1 zoning. According to Tilte 17 of the Calaveras County code, C1 is approved for parking (which an indoor RV storage facility would be). Mini-storage requires C2 zoning.
November 26, 2013 at 11:20 am #1270allenParticipantAccording to Calaveras County maps, both the Applewood Center and the proposed RV storage facility are zoned C1-PD. You’re saying there would be more congestion at the storage facility than the Applewood Center? And what is PX zoning? I see see the Meadowmont shopping center is zoned C1-PD-PX.
November 26, 2013 at 10:59 am #1269allenParticipantWhat is the difference between C1 and C1-PD? I know PD means “Planned Development” but how does property get from C1 to C1-PD?
November 26, 2013 at 6:51 am #1266MtnMaxParticipantThere are two intersections to deal with here. Stop and look at all of the skid marks that go off of the road already. This area of the highway is already extremely dangerous and needs to be addressed. You are ignoring the most basic fact that it is not in the correct zoning. Fact is that if this is allowed in this zoning here. It can be done again in another C1 zone. As for making trouble hardly I actually would love to see something useful in this location. The current zoning allows for all kinds of very appropriate uses. However they would also require the developer to address the Hwy.
November 25, 2013 at 11:34 pm #1263allenParticipantIsn’t that section of Highway 4 a double line (no passing) section? If so, why does it matter if it’s a blind curve? I go through at least a dozen blind curves between BTV and Arnold. I don’t think less than 20 visits a day is unreasonable either. It almost sounds like “someone” or “a few people” just want be in control and cause trouble. Just my two cents, for whatever it’s worth.
