I do appreciate everything they do to keep the wires clear. We have experienced the outages, including the one this past Sat. night. We just want to do the right thing concerning these big trees. Thank you to all who gave advice.

According to the door tag left on homes where no one is home:

    Dots mean trim

    X means need to remove.

The colors mean something. Some need trimming, some need removing, some seem to get painted for no reason.
We have 2 trees on the street with blue from 3 years ago, orange from 2 years ago and pink from last year. They didn’t do anything to the trees. The white paint from last year meant removal and they removed one of our trees.

BTW, once you’ve gone through a week long power outage in the middle of winter you will no doubt come to appreciate everything they do to try to keep power available through the winter storms 🙂

They do it every year. You don’t really need to do anything. They are just giving you notice. Their crews / contractors will come along and do the necessary trimming. They do a good job of cleaning up and usually leave any burnable size wood behind cut into manageable lengths. Sometimes, if a big tree has died or is somehow threatening the power lines you would probably get more of a notice.

We were at our cabin this past weekend in BTV and noticed 2 of our trees had been tagged with white markings. Our neighbor also had trees marked, but in yellow. They also had a tag on their door with info about the trees being hazardous to power lines, etc and there was a number to call. We didn’t have a notice or any info about the trees left at our place. Has anyone else received any of these notices or had their trees tagged? If so, what are we supposed to do?
