I know my brother and I used to shoot outside White Pines. Not sure of the name or number of that fire road, sorry. Its used a lot and even the ranger who stop to talk to us said this was one of the safest places to shoot.
There is another place that we used to go and it was East on 4 at about fire road N57 or 59. I think if you check at the guns and ammo store near Big Trees Market they should be able to tell you all the allowable places.

There is a designated shooting area at Candy Rock Quarry south of Avery. Take Hunter Dam Road off Highway 4, right onto Candy Rock Road, and left on the road to the quarry.

Looking for a local, not too hard to find and get to: safe place to discharge firearms. Do not want to affect anyone else with noise or safety concerns. I would like to be able to sight in long rifle as well as train spouse and others in firearms safety and operation. Veteran and former LEO: own only a few firearms: long rifle/shotgun. Haven’t shot myself for a few years and will want to reacquaint myself with proper techniques before bringing anyone else out. Not looking to offend non-gun people or start a gun debate; please don’t respond with anti-gun discourse if this is your opinion
