There’s some kind of thermal pattern to it. The smoke seems to be heaviest at night or early morning when it has been really hot during the day. I’ve definitely noticed because those are the nights when you really want to leave your windows open to cool the house, but several times I’ve had to shut them and live with heat. Usually it’s fine when I fall asleep, but I’ll wake up right as things are really starting to cool off to the smell of smoke. The smoke will hang around until mid-morning, and then usually drift off for the middle of the day as it heats up, only to return. However, when the temps are cool during the day like last week we haven’t been getting much of it at all. Since this weekend will be very hot, I’m predicting smokey mornings.

this morning was not as bad as it has been for the past several days in Dorrington. For several days it was bad enough that I decided to ride my indoor trainer rather than ride outdoors.
Like I said, today is better but who knows what tomorrow might bring?

I’m wondering if there is much smoke in the Dorrington & Bear Valley areas from the Slinkard and Railroad fires. If so, how bad is it? We’re considering staying in the Bay area this weekend due to smoke, extreme heat, and increased fire danger.

    Thanks
