A loop that I’ve done before is to start at the BV gas station and head up to the lake. Near the dam, cross the street you’ll find a trail that takes you up to the big turn where they park the snow cats. Then proceed up the dirt road to the top of Koala and continue up to the top of Bear. From the top of Bear, go down West World and you find along the dirt road and find the mid slope trail that takes you over to Corral Ridge. Continue on and depending on how far you want to go you can take a left on 7N35 which takes you back to CA-4 via Corral Gulch. Or, if you want to keep going, don’t take the left and follow the trail to Bear Trap Basin. Which loops around and comes back to 7N35 for your exit.

Attached is a crude .gpx file I made showing the route. Note, there are some extraneous lines so be careful using this solely as your navigation.

Well, there’s the Wheeler Lake trail if you can find the other way back. Go in at Woodchuck Basin, takes you up a summit near Mt Reba, drop down the other side and you get to Wheeler Lake, which is lovely. Most people go back the same way (~ 7 mi RT), but I’ve heard there is another trail up and over to the northeast, and I think we saw the traces of it from the summit. This could make it a loop, probably about the right distance. However, even the main trail was somewhat damaged over the heavy winter, so I suspect the “northeast passage” is even more difficult this year.

We did a loop from Union to Rock Lake, trail lost through tree fall to end up up at Duck lake and back to Union. We got ~12 miles.

I see Stanislaus Mdw to Bull Run and Heiser to Mosquito and back to Stanislaus Mdw for 8-10 miles.

With a car shuttle we could get the whole of ART.

What other ~8-12 mile hikes are there that are NOT out-n-back? Prefer loop trails but shuttling could work sometimes.

I don’t see anything promising from Sourgrass nor Sand Flat/Wolfboro, wouldn’t it be nice if the two were connected by a river-side trail the whole way!

I used Defy Extreme on my redwood deck. First the cleaner/brightner, then the sealer. Very easy to apply and clean up. Deck looks great and very water repellent now.

I have been using Abbots Snow Removal for 18 years. Shirley has always been on top of my requests, even last minute, and Bobby and their other drivers have been great. I will be calling them again this year when I need a one-shot as I trust they will do me right, as they have for so many years.

I painted by exposed, back deck, and I am happy with it. It seals and smooths out the deck. There are some expensive products at ACE that will actually bond with the wood and leave a powder coat finish, but that paint is expensive. I just used the store brand deck paint. Did the front stairs, too.

There is still time to get a bid for your driveway. Adam has been doing snow removal for over 20 years now. Experience makes a difference. Call or email 209 795-2847 or snidersnowremoval@outlook.com It’s a good idea to be prepared this year. Last year many people did not have a contract when the big storm hit. Don’t get stuck!

Wow, that is NOT the answer I was expecting. But it makes sense, since none of the products I have used in the past have really thrilled me. Was kind of hoping there was a “new and improved” out there that people were happy with. Thanks! I’m going to ponder that.

I’ve had my cabin in Dorrington for 18 years now. Every two to three years I have cleaned and applied a couple different stain/sealant products. But no matter how carefully I prepare, following every recommended step, my deck’s appearance declines rapidly in a year or two. So after talking to a landscape architect, and reading many websites, I took a totally different tack two years ago. I sanded my deck smooth using the same equipment used for hardwood floors. I applied nothing. I am just letting it turn naturally gray. Two years later my bare deck looks good, not great. But it looks FAR better after two years compared to any of the stain/sealants that I have used previously. Time will tell, but for now I’m very pleased that I did not apply anything.
