KeymasterLatest forecast is for a whole bunch of rain! NWS and KCRA are pretty consistent at the moment. We could get 4 inches of rain in Dorrington between now and Sunday morning and it’s supposed to keep raining into Monday. It’s looking like the snow level will rise above Bear Valley by Saturday evening.

KeymasterBest short term forecasting I have seen is from KCRA. Go to the map on the radar page and click “future”. Then you can zoom in on the area you’re interested in and either click play or step through their hour by hour forecast.
Last time I looked Saturday and Sunday were rain-rain-rain.

ParticipantI am planning a trip up to my place in Arnold this weekend, Please keep me posted on this newest storm and how the roads are. looks like this could end up being a good one
Thanksallen
ParticipantI don’t know how often you “should” have a septic pumped, but our cabin was built in ’73 and we had it pumped when we bought it in ’94. We are now full time and never had it pumped since ’94. Been told we should never need it pumped if we don’t abuse it. Don’t know if that’s true or not.

ParticipantDowney Cooper is our poop place, too. The guy, I’d have to look up his name, was great to talk to about septic health, root maintenance, what should/shouldn’t go down, etc. He took his time to answer all my newbie questions.

ParticipantI used Downey Cooper in Arnold (209) 795-0955 for some septic repair a few years ago and highly recommend them. They exceeded my expectations and I’m a picky person.

ParticipantLast November I used El Dorado Septic out of Sonora. They charged $485 which included finding the septic tank. I didn’t know where it was. They charged $85 an hour to locate the tank. If you know where your tank is the cost could be just $400.
I thought the guy did a good job. He even hosed down the walls of the tank to remove additional sediment.

ParticipantHow often should a septic system be inspected for a cabin with moderate use? Also, does anyone have recommendations/comments for companies to inspect/service/pump? Thanks.

ParticipantWe have never looked into it but have been wondering lately how often is it recommended to have it pumped out? We built our place 11 years ago and it doesn’t get excessive use. Is there a rule of thumb for getting one serviced?

ParticipantLate Summer 2013, $400 for our 1200 tank.
I was told that most of the cost is for hauling the waste to Oakland to treatment plant.

ParticipantHello all, I got a quote to have solids removed from my septic tank 2 bath 3 bd room system for nearly 500 bucks. Does anyone know if that’s the norm or is there a better service, thanks

I’ve heard insects in walls can be a problem before I read this.

ParticipantWe also had cement composite siding installed last August as none of the cheaper solutions worked. I believe the problem has now been solved. Justin Dollar’s crew did a great job.

ParticipantWe bought our place in ’89. There was a severe woodpecker problem. The previous owners put up owls on perches around the cabin, and nailed rubber alligators(!) around on the siding to try to discourage the birds. Still, every few months it was necessary to repair holes.
It finally got to where the ‘peckers would make 3-4 inch nesting holes, and after they moved out the chipmunks and flying squirrels would move in. Problem was finally solved when we had the siding replaced with cement composite. Canton Construction did the work, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. -
