We just heard two booms. Did anyone else hear them or know what they could have been? We are across the highway from Camp Connell store.

fyi, one “simple” change took the cameras down for another few hours this morning. Hopefully, everything is back on-line now.

Thanks. Sounds like a good plan. I’ve heard fir trees don’t resist the beetle very well when they don’t get enough water.

Recommendations were to pick several of the most desirable fir trees to keep, then make multiple drip/ soaker hose rings out to the branch drip radius, heavily mulch the same and then periodic deep soaking. The additional water will encourage much more sap production which repels the beetles. They will hopefully then go for weaker trees.

I don’t think the color has anything to do with the attraction of woodpeckers. Another friend of ours has a gray cabin and they have had issues with woodpeckers too. As far as I know, the only endangered species of woodpeckers is the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker which is in the southeastern states. However, I don’t shoot any birds, woodpeckers included.

I like all your ideas. My house is not brown so I don’t have bird attack issues. Just please don’t do like my neighbor does and shot the woodpeckers. One or both species are endangered. Remember we moved into their neighborhood.

vnj, I was thinking the same thing. Bear Valley is a very small community on Hwy 49 at the junction of Bear Valley Road.

All BTV residents should plan outdoor picnics. Sure to rain.

Perhaps you could schedule a simultaneous snow dance for all Big Trees Village residents!

Last seen in Fresno and Bear Valley.
Is that “our” Bear Valley, or the Bear Valley that is only an hour and a half from Fresno? Certainly hope he is found. The parents must be frantic.

    Hi Everyone,
I saw this on our local news and thought it might be wise to post a link here in case anyone has seen this young man. Let’s hope and pray for his safe return. Link below:

Yay! Looks like my last fix worked. Now… what to do to make it rain / snow through February, March, and April????
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately, my initial attempts to get the station and cameras back on line have failed. It’s going to take more troubleshooting than I have time for at the moment so it may not be until this weekend that I can get to it. The forecast and road condition links still work.

FYI, I had to do some re-arranging which has taken all the weather station and cameras off line. Hopefully I’ll be able to get them running again soon.
