Has anyone been to the Snow Park at Lake Alpine? Is there any snow there for the grandkids to play in?

I would love to have his contact info please. I also live down in the valley but have a cabin up here in need of a garage door. Let me know the best way to get ahold of him.

Ok so it’s a lousy year so far for Bear but if it was a normal year how would Bear have finished it this season?

I sure hope it gets snowing fast, it seems with last years goood snows the Hwy 4 businesses were just starting to look something like at least good times.
It hard to explain to folks how popular it was up here in the 80’s and all the people.

The only problem with a back up generator “when needed” is they don’t cycle on there own, so the time you need it you can’t get it started especially if it’s gas and it goes bad. So you need to remember to run them regularly and use fuel stabilizer or 100LL aviation fuel that does not go bad.

Our son has a garage door company in the valley and has done doors in Arnold as recently as last weekend. If you don’t have a local respond he will be happy to handle that for you. We have a cabin in Big Trees Estates so he’s up there quite often. I can forward contact information if interested. Regards Bill.

Does anyone know of a contractor who will install a garage door in Arnold. I have a garage with no door on it that has been boarded over. Thanks

Steve : I would be glad to show you what I installed at my house. A system exactly like you are referring to. Cost about $400 in materials. DIYS.

I know that the topic of standby or back up generators has been brought up many times and it’s hard to know which thread to go back to.

    My dilemma is this.

At first I was going to go with a permanent standby generator and decided that the cost was too great for the amount of time I would be spending up hill. I received a quote from a local reputable company but just decided I couldn’t swing it right now.

I then decided to purchase a back up generator (12 KW) that I could get wired into the important circuits and manually turn on when needed.

I re contacted the original company and they quoted again but don’t feel like I’m necessary getting what I really need. I contacted another locally recommended electrician, (who subsequently did other work for me and very satisfactorily I might add) and yet I still don’t seem to be able to get the answers I need. I have a generator, Duromax, 12 kw, dual fuel and want to tap into 10 circuits in the house that I deemed the important ones should the need arise.

I have talked to both the electrician, the manufacturer and the original electrical company and can’t seem to get a straight answer as to the type of sub panel and transfer switch I need. I can’t believe that this situation has to be so difficult that someone can’t come in and say ” you need this or you need that”. The manufacturer says I need to talk to the electrical people visa versa.

Any comments would be extremely helpful and appreciated.

Thanks Joe, that’s encouraging. I have seen a bit more real estate activity in BTV lately so that’s a good sign.

Hi Steve, I think it’s mostly my fault. A while back I became fed up with the amount of spammer / bogus registration attempts and indicated that I was probably going to shut down the forum and maybe the entire site. I had a change of heart and have actually added more to the site rather than taking away.
Also, this is THE slowest time of year up here with the absolute least amount of interest. Lakes are closed or too chilly to use, there’s no snow. Heck, Camp Connell just decided to close their doors except for the weekends until things pick up a bit.
As far as visitors go, it’s been pretty steady but definitely picks up when there is weather on the horizon.

Joe,It sounds like a great idea. One of my concerns seems to be the lack of participation on the message boards here. Can you tell from the number of hits if there’s still activity? I have relied on this site for many years and would hate to think interest is declining.

Comcast came back up around 7pm.

I was keeping the Zello push-to-talk channel updated, since that is a great way to keep in touch when the internet goes down. I walked around the Shoshone loop, took pictures and chatted with the Comcast guys. You can see the logs.

Install the Zello app on your phone, then search for the channel “BigTreesVillageCalaveras”. (need to type it all).

Zello was highly instrumental during the Hurricanes earlier this year, both the rescue personnel and the neighborhoods found it essential.

There is also a wide spread internet (Comcast) outage. We thought it was power, but a PG&E technician (lineman?) called me from my house to say that rheee was power to our meter. We can’t see our cameras or thermostat. Comcast says an outage is in our area.
