    Joe,

Can't imagine the task ahead of you but as always your efforts are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

FYI, in preparation for the coming migration to the new site platform I am pruning the member database.  I am removing all members who have not been logged in for the last year.  If this applies to you, you will have to re-register once the new site comes on line (if you choose to do so).
Do not attempt to register on the existing site.  Registration for new members has been disabled for the time being.

I have just been informed by our web host that BigTreesTech may be taken off line due to a software issue.  Unfortunately, to resolve the issue it would take a major re-write of some key components of the site that I do not have the time to do now.

If the site is taken off line, I will try to post an explanation note.  I will also attempt to get the site back on-line before winter weather comes our way.

My apologies for any inconveniences that may arise from this problem,
    joe

I could host the website temporarily with my domain, http://www.hi-sierra.com (it will currently forward you to a Facebook page), with phpBB 3xx. Let me know if you are interested. I have limited time also but could probably throw something together.

Thanks, Allen.  I think in the long run that might make things a bit more difficult rather than less.  My web host is not talking about kicking us off so much as disabling a particular piece of software that the current site relies on heavily.  I have a pretty good idea as to what I want to do with the next incarnation of BTT but unfortunately I have another big project that is behind schedule at the moment.  A temporary fix that I may put in place will include a new form but unfortunately many of the current site's features will have to wait until I have more time for development work.
On the positive side, this is a migration that I have been wanting to do for several years and my web host just gave me the kick in the butt that I needed,

I received this prompt and informative reply from the President of our Property Owners Association:

Hi! I’m the president of the BTVPOA and our manager forwarded your email to me. We were aware that folks were talking about the Pawnee home incident on bigtreestech—nice that it provides a forum for property owners to converse with one another.

The homeowners on Pawnee are close friends and neighbors. My husband and I began a request chain to build a reward for information leading to arrest and conviction. The amount has grown to $1,750, which certainly shows that our community stands up for each other.

While presiding over our Association’s Annual Meeting over Labor Day weekend, I told the more than 100 members present what had happened. It does seem pretty clear that this was retaliation for a lot inspection citation or something related to the lot inspection program, which the violated homeowner has run as a volunteer for many years. Therefore, it wouldn’t seem property owners in Big Trees should feel concerned that this sort of vandalism is endemic. Let’s certainly hope not!

It is true that our sheriff’s department is stretched as thin as it can be. That’s why having our property owners’ association can be valuable as it represents a stronger, safer, more cohesive community and can act as the “eyes and ears” for residents who may not be in their Big Trees homes on a regular basis.

Repair work is now underway at the Pawnee home. Thanks so much for your concern!

I have been coming to BTV to my place now for 23 years.  I have also been watching this tide of increasing talk about and incidence of criminal activity and it is more troubling than we are really confronting.

The county is getting more and more populace and it now is fundamentally without law enforcement or, seemingly, any political will to bite the damn bullet and do what needs to be done to what?  perhaps double the Sheriff's Department staffing as a start?

It is ludicrous for any of us to assume any more strenuous enforcement or pursuit of suspects when there are just a token number of deputies to cover a very large rural area.  What's the total in the County's sheriff department?  I would wager a paltry sum.

This isn't going to get any better especially when "B & E", and other destructive elements see that they can pursue their activities with virtual impunity.  There has to be a better forum than this in which to air our concerns and indignation.

Perhaps the county board of directors would be a good place to start.  No-growth and no new taxes, result in no new revenue for the county while costs and ongoing obligations (like pensions) continue to rise.

It's so disheartening to see the damage done to this home.  Unfortunately, though, I wish you great luck with the sheriff.  We had a contractor break into our property last November, admit to taking items belonging to us, and they (the Calaveras Co. DA and sheriff) have refused to arrest or prosecute due to "lack of funds and manpower".  They told us to file a claim with our insurance company.  End of story.

Any recommendations for someone who can assemble a fairly large play structure and build a base around it with wood chips?

I have notified the BTV HOA about this hoping they might inform all property owners about it.
Hopefully somebody will hear something that can give the Sheriff something to go on.

Might be a good idea to put the info on craigslist along with a picture of the cabin. Just a thought.

Follow-up regarding encryption of Limited Basic channels – I found on an old e-statement from Comcast that our area will have encryption turned on as of September 17. As of that day no TV channels for you unless you have a Comcast device connected!

Could you pm me the email or copy and paste it here? Without personal information of course.

I'm with you on this Flyfishr.  We try to do groceries, hardware, auto parts and some dinners in town.
If these places go away our local government will find a way to get that tax money from us anyway we might as well spend it ourselves.  I'm still smoken that Big Trees folks let Lube Room slip away.
Camp Connell folks are great and fun to go to  but Lube Room had the cool factor and we just don't have a lot of that up here.
