tortugaParticipantWe have a double trunked pine tree that we’re thinking needs to be removed, each trunk is 18inch diameter or so. Who do we call to bid the job? What’s the ballpark we should expect for this work?
Thanks!
SandiParticipantJoanTomParticipantHAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!

bigtreestechmanKeymasterWelcome to 2014!
I hope this year brings you peace, prosperity, and joy in the mountains!
joecaleachParticipantI have experienced the same thing in the past, in BTV, and it’s really an awesome event to witness. Never quite new what generated the phenomenon.
allenParticipantI’m using Blue Host too and there are a lot of complaints on Twitter; mostly because of lack of updates and no apology. Oh well, life goes on…..
bigtreestechmanKeymasterBigTreesTech, and thousands of other sites, went down for a couple hours today. Our web host went completely off line for a while.
Hopefully the problems are all resolved.
joeallenParticipantDitto on the thermocouple. FYI, a thermocouple is a safety device that detects heat from the pilot light. In case the pilot light goes out, the gas supply will be shut off. On the other hand, a defective thermocouple will also shut off the gas supply once you quit holding the button down.
K6OAKParticipantLast night at around 9:30 p.m. I stepped outside of our Meadowmont cabin to observe the sky. I noticed the pines swaying away and a roar in the sky. Very freaky. Then the noise moved down the canyon towards Murphys and slowly disappeared. The trees stopped moving. All was over in a matter of minutes. I must have stepped out as this thing was moving over Arnold. I’m guessing that the cold air up the canyon was descending down hwy 4 into the valley. How often does this happen? Is this common in the winter in the mountains on clear nights?
tatonkaParticipantAgree with thermocoupler. Replaced one a couple of years ago. Not difficult. It would be amazing to know how many have panicked, run down to Lowes, Home Depot, or the local hardware store for a $400.00+ water heater, when a $12.00 thermocoupler would do. I was nearly one of them. Thank you Internet.
MikeParticipantYes, sounds like the thermocouple. Sometimes the pilot flame doesn’t envelop the thermocouple enough to generate sufficient power to enable the pilot. Make sure that the pilot flame is properly aimed.
BruceRParticipantWe are on Shastan (Unit 1) and can only send/receive text messages. The Verizon service goes through Golden State Cellular, and getting to the voice-mail messages is a little complicated (look on-line at Golden State, I left the instructions up at the house).
