ParticipantThanks Joe, that’s encouraging. I have seen a bit more real estate activity in BTV lately so that’s a good sign.

KeymasterHi Steve, I think it’s mostly my fault. A while back I became fed up with the amount of spammer / bogus registration attempts and indicated that I was probably going to shut down the forum and maybe the entire site. I had a change of heart and have actually added more to the site rather than taking away.
Also, this is THE slowest time of year up here with the absolute least amount of interest. Lakes are closed or too chilly to use, there’s no snow. Heck, Camp Connell just decided to close their doors except for the weekends until things pick up a bit.
As far as visitors go, it’s been pretty steady but definitely picks up when there is weather on the horizon.caleach
ParticipantJoe,It sounds like a great idea. One of my concerns seems to be the lack of participation on the message boards here. Can you tell from the number of hits if there’s still activity? I have relied on this site for many years and would hate to think interest is declining.

ParticipantComcast came back up around 7pm.
I was keeping the Zello push-to-talk channel updated, since that is a great way to keep in touch when the internet goes down. I walked around the Shoshone loop, took pictures and chatted with the Comcast guys. You can see the logs.
Install the Zello app on your phone, then search for the channel “BigTreesVillageCalaveras”. (need to type it all).
Zello was highly instrumental during the Hurricanes earlier this year, both the rescue personnel and the neighborhoods found it essential.

ParticipantThank you for the info.

ParticipantThere is also a wide spread internet (Comcast) outage. We thought it was power, but a PG&E technician (lineman?) called me from my house to say that rheee was power to our meter. We can’t see our cameras or thermostat. Comcast says an outage is in our area.

ParticipantJust heard of a few downed trees in the area due to the high winds. The On-Trac delivery person mentioned one at the Arnold Fire Dept and one on Lilac Drive. I think that’s what he said as he ran off. Any others?

ParticipantI created a channel for BTV in the Zello app. Zello is a walkie-talkie style Push-to-Talk app for Android or iPhone. You can talk directly to contacts, or join a channel and have a group conversation. It does require wifi or cellular, but uses less bandwidth than a phone conversation, so the messages will often get through when a call won’t. You can get notifications even if you don’t have the app running, and play the messages later.
Might be especially relevant if there is some excitement around here.
You are all welcome to join the Zello channel “BigTreesVillageCalaveras”.

ParticipantDoes anyone have any idea how much it should cost to have a transfer switch should cost? I realize it would be partially dependent on how many circuits you try to convert over, but a ball park number would be a help.
Thanks
