ParticipantThere’s a team in the BTW neighborhood today (Thurs 5/11) from Sonora. They just gave me a very reasonable quote for 3 fir trees in my yard. Can’t vouch for the service as yet, but they were very friendly and responsive. His card below:

ParticipantA concrete driveway is generally more expensive because it requires more hand labor to install. An asphalt driveway is installed mostly with power equipment (spreaders, rollers, etc). Concrete requires excavation, forming, steel reinforcing, pumping, placement, finishing the surface, and, finally, curing.
A 6″ thick concrete driveway will be much stronger than 2″ of asphalt and will “span” over soft spots in the subgrade. If you have a steep driveway, concrete can be broom finished to give better tire traction but asphalt must be install “smooth” and can be slippery when wet. Concrete will obviously be whiter in color vs. black asphalt. “Lamp black” can be added to the concrete at the plant to make it more grey, so it doesn’t blind you in the sunlight.
So you might want to get a quote for both asphalt and concrete based on your current site conditions.
Folks need to remember that concrete needs to be “cured” for at least a week after placement by sealing it again water evaporation. Expansion joints also need to be installed, since concrete shrinks during curing and will crack randomly, if not provided with “control joints”.Hope this helps.

ParticipantAnyone have contact for Ron Cooper?
Or any other recommended driveway re-surfacer?
I noticed some people have concrete vs asphalt. What are the pros and cons?

ParticipantHi All,
Ebbetts Fire Districts has a list of certified lot cleaner and tree folks. Just give them a call or stop by the office on Blagen Rd. in Arnold.

ParticipantI had 3 trees cut down by PG&E and made arrangements with a friend to split and remove the wood. Unfortunately, he just cancelled on me and I’m scrambling to find another source before my scheduled lot clean-up on May 20th. I know there’s a huge surplus of trees this year, but is anyone interested in free wood? Thanks in advance!!

ParticipantNow that it’s nice enough to cook outside, it’s time to re-tile the kitchen counters and backsplash. I already have the tiles. Does anyone know a good tile setter to do the work in BTV?

ParticipantAny recommendations other than A-1? I have called them several times and they don’t seem to be answering their messages these days.

ParticipantJust called Rowely’s number this morning. The voice mail message cut off early, but the last word I heard was “16th”, so am assuming that means May 16th they will be open.
