The appropriate zoning for this facility is A1
allenParticipantOK, I see PX is off site parking. So we have Meadowmont and Applewood both with C1 zoning. According to Tilte 17 of the Calaveras County code, C1 is approved for parking (which an indoor RV storage facility would be). Mini-storage requires C2 zoning.
allenParticipantAccording to Calaveras County maps, both the Applewood Center and the proposed RV storage facility are zoned C1-PD. You’re saying there would be more congestion at the storage facility than the Applewood Center? And what is PX zoning? I see see the Meadowmont shopping center is zoned C1-PD-PX.
allenParticipantWhat is the difference between C1 and C1-PD? I know PD means “Planned Development” but how does property get from C1 to C1-PD?
jibwaylarryParticipantWe have a cast-iron, enameled decorative steamer on our stove, bought from one of the local wood-stove stores. It works great, but the interior is unfinished, and now rusty, so the hot water inside is not potable. L.L. Bean has a “Lattice Stovetop Steamer” you may like. The inside is also enameled, so may do double-duty as a cook pot.
Larry
KumaParticipantIt will make it more comfortable inside as well. You can pick them up at Ace downtown as well, but any good heavy pot will work.
MtnMaxParticipantThere are two intersections to deal with here. Stop and look at all of the skid marks that go off of the road already. This area of the highway is already extremely dangerous and needs to be addressed. You are ignoring the most basic fact that it is not in the correct zoning. Fact is that if this is allowed in this zoning here. It can be done again in another C1 zone. As for making trouble hardly I actually would love to see something useful in this location. The current zoning allows for all kinds of very appropriate uses. However they would also require the developer to address the Hwy.
Snowshoe1958ParticipantPlanning a plumbing project to replace some 55 year old galvanized that that has flow restrictions. Does anyone have any experience with PEX piping with our temperatures and whether it would be a viable alternate?
JDParticipantI think that we got ours at the Red Store in Murphys but I suggest you might shop first in Arnold.
allenParticipantIsn’t that section of Highway 4 a double line (no passing) section? If so, why does it matter if it’s a blind curve? I go through at least a dozen blind curves between BTV and Arnold. I don’t think less than 20 visits a day is unreasonable either. It almost sounds like “someone” or “a few people” just want be in control and cause trouble. Just my two cents, for whatever it’s worth.
MtnMaxParticipantI understand that this property will be developed. However it needs to conform to the zoning or go through rezoning to the appropriate zone. In the event of a big box or other type of store or even a church Caltrans would require them to upgrade the Hwy to accommodate the added traffic. This developer is trying to skirt the zoning issues and get around the traffic issues by claiming less than 20 visits a day. Now we all know that people with boats and RVs will greatly exceed this estimate in the warmer months. We have a blind corner to deal with as well not to mention the bus stop and mailboxes for Northwood(the post office has refused to allow them to be moved as per the Planning commission meeting.)
tortugaParticipantWe got our blue enamel cast iron one at one of the resale shops in Murphys. I think the antique shop there also had some…
lostbruceParticipantThanks for the replies. By chance did you pick up the steamer locally? If so, where?
allenParticipantI’ve asked several people and nobody I’ve asked knows. 🙁
allenParticipantjoe,
I don’t see a good reason to object to the storage facility. Currently the land is vacant and looks like a fire hazard (on Google maps). We don’t have a decent RV storage facility up here now, and as far as I know this wouldn’t take away any business from Arnold. The storage facility in Arnold, Secured Self Storage RV & Boat, only a has few indoor RV storage units. Most of those storage units are for storing furniture and other household items.
If it were going to be a box store like Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc., then I would do whatever necessary to stop it. If I’m missing something please post it.
allen
PS. Attached are some photos of the plot and street view of where they want to build the storage facility.
