It’s working! It’s taken a lot of work and a lot of hours but I am stoked that the snow sensor system is working.
bigtreestechmanKeymasterThis morning I will be restarting the software that creates all the weather data and camera images. This is required to initiate the new snow measurement function. It is possible, even likely, that the new software will cause problems so the weather information and images may not be updated until I get all the bugs worked out.
SnowShoeParticipantI noticed that Delos Insurance Solutions was advertising heavily on the thepinetree.net as a provider of insurance in wildfire/brush regions. Their ad contact information was http://www.getdelos.com/calaveras (415) 935-3244.
There is also FAIR Plan which is an insurer of last resort funded by every insurance company doing business in California–an insurance pool. Not sure if the property needs to be a primary residence or not. This is usually offered through independent insurance agents.
Just some ideas. Hope they pan out.
bayrunnerParticipantThanks, Ward. FYI, I just called and they told me that they are NOT insuring up there unless you are an existing customer.
mtndadParticipantI won’t be ordering the antenna. I have Comcast for TV and Internet
nkruseParticipantI had good luck with Black Bear insurance last year when it was impossible for me to get insurance.

FlyerParticipantI just received the same notice about two weeks ago. The insurance wants no trees 100’ from structure and 10’ clearance between branches of individual trees. Unless I cut down all the trees on my place plus both neighbors properties I can’t get it to work. They are also talking about the propane tank too close to the house. There is nowhere left to put it except underground. My agent is running up all his available flagpoles but no hits yet.
bayrunnerParticipantWe just received a notice of non-renewal for fire insurance on our cabin.
Anyone have a recommendation on an agent/insurance company?
Thanks!
bigtreestechmanKeymastersemi good news. It would appear that the back yard camera just got reset to factory defaults by the series of power glitches rather than permanently damaged. However, I will need to re-establish all the settings in order to get it working on the site again. I may not get that done for a couple days because of other obligations.
bigtreestechmanKeymasterOK, I think I figured out the rain gauge problem. It looks like a pine needle had gotten into the rain collector and was diverting the water away from the measurement device. I need to figure out a way to keep pine needles from getting to the bottom of the collector.
Now, another, perhaps more serious problem has come to light. Yesterday we had a series of power outages which seem to have knocked out the back yard camera. We’ll see if I can get it working again.bigtreestechmanKeymasterIt actually has been raining over the last couple days. Unfortunately, it appears that the weather station rain gauge isn’t working properly. I will attempt to troubleshoot the problem when it clears up.
