Has anynone else received their fire tax bill? I have 3 properties that get the tax, but the one in Calaveras is the only one I have recieved. Could this be an error? I know it’s not officially a tax, but the state could be a little less transparent by not having it due the same month as the proerty tax!

If your machine is a Featherweight, I’m jealous. If the cost of repair gets too crazy, try a Janome Gem Gold. Kens Sewing Center has them at a reasonable price. I’ve been quilting for about 20 years and switched from Kenmore to Janome. Could not be happier.

Thank you very very much for all the input. I was able to fix the glitch on my own with the help of a great website. Having fixed the first glitch I have found a second, so still may be hauling the machine off to Ferreira’s for repair. It is a brand new (to me) machine manufactured in the mid 60s that I bought for a song on Craigslist. I wanted one to keep at the cabin. No learning curve once I get it operating correctly. I am the original owner of one just like it at home. Okay, just gave away the fact that I am ancient!! Many thanks. Valerie

Dana referred my wife to the place Joe mentioned above. It is called Ferreira’s Central Vacuum and is located SOUTH of the intersection. The price for the repair was reasonable, but more important, he was able to repair the sewing machine after two others here in Fremont could not. Oh, and he did call us at the cabin and told us it was ready.

There is a sewing machine and vacuum shop on the west side of 49 (main st) just a little to the north of the junction of 4 and 49. They fixed Dana’s embroidery machine at a reasonable price though they forgot to give us a call when it was ready.

Is it just me or are the newer highway so bright you can’t even see them? They are so reflective that I can’t even read them at night and have to shield my vision from the reflective given off by my low beams.

Does anyone know who might repair an old (vintage 1960s) Singer sewing machine? And to think I was planning to do some mending tonight before the machine had different ideas! Thank you for any input.

I am interested in the sofa, if it’s in as good condition as the love seat seems to be in the photo. I was JUST checking around for sofas this weekend!

Let me know if it’s still available, thanks.

FYI, the new forum no longer supports “private messaging”. However, I’ve just added the capability to mark a forum reply to be “Set as private reply” which is supposed to make it visible only to the original topic poster and admins.

I bought a new sofa and love seat for our cabin. I have a sleeper sofa and/or love seat available to anyone who wants it. I am coming up today (2/24) and tomorrow.

    PM if interested.

    Thanks, Vic

Attached is a picture of the love seat, the sleeper sofa is the same pattern

There is a great article in Friday’s (2/21) Calaveras Enterprise titled “Residents look to control Bear Valley’s destiny”. To quote the article, “Bear Valley Mtn COOP was formed to give people in the area an opportunity to take control of their own destiny by providing a way to purchase the resort’s assets, including the extensive infrastructure on the mtn. leased from the U.S. Forest Service”. There is much more in the article. If interested, go to their website,
bvmcoop.org, scroll down to get the latest updates on bvmcoop.org. You then need to put in your email to get periodic updates, and it is free.

Some people came by looking for the owner of a Welsh Corgi. I didn’t get their phone number but they are at 5313 Midoo Way. Please contact them if this is your dog or you know whose dog it is. See photo.
