We bought a house a little over a year ago and I had a terrible time with the woodpeckers tearing up the side of the house. Many patched holes later I tried the spider with mixed results. Cds as well. Then I tried the holographic strips and have not had 1 hole in my siding in 6 months. I hang them about every 4 feet at 2-3 foot lengths.

Very cool!! Thanks for posting! We have a Moultrie M 880 from Amazon. It seems to take good pics.

Posted in today’s SFGate -Tom Stienstra article which includes a photo from Dorrington.

Any recommendation for a color wildlife cam?

    We have a spider-works great!!
We have a fishing line attached to it so we can lower it to the ground to change the batteries.

I considered the attack spider but they are battery operated and the hanging point is so high up that the thought of having to go up to replace batteries is more times than I want to scale that ladder. It may come down to not having a choice, we’ll see.

There is something called “Birds Away Attack Spider.” I think it’s activated by the sound of the bird. Check the web site at http://www.attackspider.com. Looks scary to me, but I haven’t tried it.

I’d like to give it a try.

How far down from the eave did you hand the disks?

    Steve.

We used to have a problem with woodpeckers, but we found a low-cost solution. Remember when AOL was giving away hand-fulls of disks. I tied a disk at each eave corner and have not had a pecker attack since (knock on wood)……

When we were up over the holidays I filled in several woodpecker hole on two sides of the house. I also risked life and limb to hang some molar strips pretty high up.

Upon arriving tonight I find some new holes.

I have heard that they fake owls and spiders have some effect but you have to keep moving them because the birds get used to them.

I am not particularly proud of my repair work the last time but the two questions are:

1- what’s the best technique for keeping them away?

2- I would like to have someone professionally repair the damage that’s already been done, any recommendations?

I have a large cedar tree that looks to be dying. It has very few limbs at the top, but they’re still green. Does anyone have a recommendation for an arborist who can evaluate the tree?
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott

@rswheeler1 – At the top of this page (or any other page) click on “Forums.” Then select the Forum you would like to post in, like “Big Trees Talk,” “Cabin Maintenance,” etc. After you do that, at the bottom of the page, you can start a new topic. Look at the second attachment first, then the first attachment and then the third. They didn’t come out in the order I was trying to upload them. There’s no “Button” to start a new topic like most forums.

Thanks, Allen, but I don’t see the “new topic” page. Not even at the bottom of this thread. Sorry to be a bother.
