ParticipantNot doing your math – but some anecdotal info: our cabin was 33* last night after no power since Fri/Sat wee hours. So your 25* guess may be too cold 🙂

ParticipantAny engineers out there care to take a crack at this calculation? Starting temperature of 125F, mass of 55 gallons stored in high efficiency water heater container. No wind exposure and sits under a cabin on a concrete pad with a ground temperature of 50F. Mean ambient temperature of 25F.
In the absence of electric power how many days will it take for the tank contents to freeze solid?

ParticipantHere’s some photos from DHs trip up to check on things. The sliding door photo is looking out to a second floor deck.
The tree on the power lines is not our home. I reported to BTV to see if they can contact the owners of any homes he saw downed lines.

ParticipantHaving ridden out an 11 day outage on the East Coast some years ago; here’s the deal. Comcast can’t define outages when there’s no power to your modem. So until you have power restored they have no way to help you. Those of you who have Verizon, you have some ability to “report” an outage. But the rest of us will need to be patient.

ParticipantI realize things are sketchy on utilities after the storm. I have been trying since Friday to get any (Dollar/Snider) available plow service for our next trip, and have yet to hear anything – even if it’s we are booked and can’t help.
I have been leaving messages on phone machines, so I think their power is up – but maybe there are other issues. I saw that BigtreesTech posted from Arnold.
Anyone else had any success in contacting either service?
Any information is appreciated.-

ParticipantI had a similar exchange. Problem is not with our gear.
I think because it’s a small community, there’s not enough customers to trigger the “outage alert” with comcast. As enough people call and schedule tech visits – at some point, the penny will drop and they’ll realize there’s an outage.
I’m going to wait for PGE tho as I keep getting power up/down/up/down notices. So even if the house has power, doesn’t mean the comcast cabinets have power.

ParticipantGreat slide show. I can see now that we have a huge berm to deal with. Maybe this snow load will kill some of the bark beetles.

ParticipantA couple of weeks ago (the windy storm), we were notified that a tree had fallen onto our deck! We were lucky that it was fairly skinny. I haven’t been up to check it in person, but others have said damage is minimal (deck rail and edge of roof).
Over the summer, we had cut down ~8 dead pines which were quite a bit bigger, so I’m glad we did that! This one was alive, but perhaps roots were loose due to how close it is to the seasonal creek.

ParticipantDH went up last night, we’ve got a cabin near Shoshone/Natchez. No problem getting in, 8foot high berms. Lots of downed tree branches. No power, no comcast. We don’t have a landline there.
Cabin was a toasty 33 degrees.
He’s skiing the powpow today at Bear!

ParticipantOur place is near the intersection of Meko and Shoshone. We just came home last night and the power was still out when we left. We were running a generator and had a Comcast connection until about noon on Saturday. I called Comcast and they said there were no repoerted outages in the area and tested our connection. The tech said our modem was offline and suggested it was an equipment failure and said we needed to take our modem in and exchange it. Sounds like he’s wrong and there’s an outage they haven’t identified yet.

ParticipantJust got an alert from PGE that power was restored (we’re on Karock near Yuroc). But, camera and thermostat are not responding, so I’m guessing Comcast is still out.
