We got ours a few days ago. March 8th sounds about right.
And yes, it IS an illegal TAX!

nkruseParticipantPlease add your content (comments, pics, videos, tips, sleds for sale, condition reports) to the Facebook page.
I’m hoping it becomes a user interactive Facebook page.nkruseParticipantHi,
A Bear Valley Snowmobile Page has been created.
The page is set up for folks who like to snowmobile on the Highway 4 corridor – so they can share stories, pictures, videos, tips and tricks and status on the current conditions.
You can find the page at:

tortugaParticipantWe’ve owned for a year and a half and still no notice of a fire tax/fee. We get our property tax bills just fine (note to self, pay 2nd installment!), but no fire bill yet.
LauraParticipantI asked that exact question of our CPA this past Wednesday. Since the initial ruling in the case is that it is a “fee”, not a tax, then we are not allowed to deduct it on our 2013 tax return. However, the ruling is being appealed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. So, if in the future it is deemed a “tax”, we might get it back (if you file the Petition for Redetermination) or if we don’t get it back, then we can claim a deduction. Here is the link to one of the Howard Jarvis’ recent newsletters:

SkipParticipantCan this be deducted from our income tax?
rswheeler1ParticipantI got my bill on Saturday, March 8. Can’t wait to pay it!!! Property tax due, income tax due. What a treat!
jr.ParticipantOK, folks, bills are now mailed alphabetically, and that is why the Calaveras is due earlier than other counties. ***! And, it is a tax.
jr.ParticipantHas anynone else received their fire tax bill? I have 3 properties that get the tax, but the one in Calaveras is the only one I have recieved. Could this be an error? I know it’s not officially a tax, but the state could be a little less transparent by not having it due the same month as the proerty tax!
rswheeler1ParticipantIf your machine is a Featherweight, I’m jealous. If the cost of repair gets too crazy, try a Janome Gem Gold. Kens Sewing Center has them at a reasonable price. I’ve been quilting for about 20 years and switched from Kenmore to Janome. Could not be happier.
Scott (yes, a guy! and not gay, go figure).vnjParticipantThank you very very much for all the input. I was able to fix the glitch on my own with the help of a great website. Having fixed the first glitch I have found a second, so still may be hauling the machine off to Ferreira’s for repair. It is a brand new (to me) machine manufactured in the mid 60s that I bought for a song on Craigslist. I wanted one to keep at the cabin. No learning curve once I get it operating correctly. I am the original owner of one just like it at home. Okay, just gave away the fact that I am ancient!! Many thanks. Valerie
K6OAKParticipantDana referred my wife to the place Joe mentioned above. It is called Ferreira’s Central Vacuum and is located SOUTH of the intersection. The price for the repair was reasonable, but more important, he was able to repair the sewing machine after two others here in Fremont could not. Oh, and he did call us at the cabin and told us it was ready.
bigtreestechmanKeymasterThere is a sewing machine and vacuum shop on the west side of 49 (main st) just a little to the north of the junction of 4 and 49. They fixed Dana’s embroidery machine at a reasonable price though they forgot to give us a call when it was ready.
