We have had a cabin on Shoshone for about 6 years. We used a propane company the previous owner was using. A few months ago, I saw the propane truck on the web cam, since I knew I would not be home when the invoice arrive I called to ask the cost. She said $985, I gasped, she said “Is there a problem”? I stated that the bill has never been over $600 in the past and that I was shocked. She said “it seems they have you on a high rate”. So, after talking with the neighbor, I called Ebbetts Pass Gas, told them the amount of gallons that was put in by the other company. He said their cost would have been $450. A few days later the propane company (not sure I should mention their name?) called and said good news, I have lowered your bill to $560. What the heck I am thinking. If I hadn’t of gasped in the first place, the price would of stayed the same? We will switch to Ebbetts Pass Gas when the tank runs low. Seems the other company will charge me to remove the fuel and to remove their tank. Even at lowering their price, according to Ebbetts Pass Gas they still over charged me. Now I am wondering if we have been ripped off for the last 6 years. Any thoughts on this, am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?

If you haven’t already purchased a camera we use the Nest it’s reliable and I can check our place on my phone. We purchased it at Best Buy

My AT&T land line has also been running about $45/month. But by cutting the no longer necessary Long Distance plan my new bill will be around $36/month. Annual savings of over $100. Sadly, where I’m am located on Indian Rock there is no cell signal at all.

My arlo cameras are inside so a bit less susceptible to temp variations which probably extends battery life but the 4-6 months is probably fairly accurate. I am going on my 3rd month with current batteries and they are showing full strength per the battery monitor. The batteries are standard digital camera batteries, CR123 lithium 3-volt photo batteries, and can be found easily on ebay, amazon or other online sites for a about $1.50 each in bulk.

My AT&T bill ran about $45 per month for 4 or 5 days of use per month. My cell phone works fine on Hoopa Circle so I disconnected from AT&T yesterday. It means I won’t have a hard wired phone for severe emergencies, but I’m OK with that. I just have to remember to keep the cell phone on.

I just had an interesting conversation with AT&T regarding my land line. Long long ago I signed up to pay $5.00/month + $3.49 in fees, a total of $8.49/month, to make nationwide long distance calls for 7 cents a minute. Turns out some time ago, how long I don’t know, they lowered the cost per minute to 2 cents per minute. So they have been over charging me 5 cents a minute for some time. So I requested a refund of the overcharge and they offered me $50. Ok by me, that is 1,000 minutes of 5 cent overcharge. Next I asked what would happen to my long distance cost/minute if I cancelled the $8.49 long distance plan. The answer. . . nationwide long distance would be 7 cents a minute (which is what I was already paying). So I cancelled the long distance plan.

Moral of the story is, look at your AT&T land line bill and see what you are paying for long distance. The monthly fee, if you have one, and the price/minute to make long distance calls. It should be 2 cents per minute with a long distance plan, or 7 cents per minute without a long distance plan.

Apparently if you don’t say anything, they will just keep Sc%$&ing the pooch as long as you let them.

I just got dropped by AAA. I was able to get a new policy from Farmers Insurance at a reasonable price.

Their website says 4-6 mo for battery life.

I just got this system, doing the research after the mention here. I’m so impressed! Unlike our old wired system, this only took about an hour to set up with 3 cameras outside and is really easy to work with.

One thing I’m not sure about though is the battery life. Some of the reviews said it was only a few days in very cold weather — I’m not sure if our weather qualifies as very cold. Sort of need to plan ahead because the Ace in town said they don’t stock these batteries. What has been your experience?

I purchased oak these past two years from Bob, 794-4138. I think I paid $100 for a 1/3 cord delivered. Not sure if he is still selling this time of year, but worth a call. I did see an ad yesterday on the bulletin board at Giant Burger for a party selling firewood.

Anyone know of someone looking to sell seasoned oak firewood? I know there is a lot of cedar/fir out there, but I prefer oak for heating as it doesn’t gunk up the flue with creosote. We have some, but could probably use another cord or so.

Any one seen a county plow? Last time we were plowed was 9:00PM on Saturday.

It’s now 2:30 pm and we have over 10″ of snow. The red marker is a 12″ ruler
