ParticipantWe were up this week with our grandchildren and noticed a number of situations that caused us to pause. Speeding (really speeding) snowmobiles on our neighborhood streets? Fast Cars pulling sledders up the street, around corners, etc? Let’s watch out for all of our neighbors, big and small, on foot, in snow banks or on sleds and in vehicles.

ParticipantAfter coming down Snowshoe Thompson, very slowly. I notice the visitors don’t move over for the car. Why?
Because they don’t hear it. I would suggest that you suggest to the young people to remove the ear buds from their ears when on a road where motor vehicles may be present. It’s only common sense.Thank you.

ParticipantThis is great! This is our sixth winter. Blizzards the first two years, three drought years, and now this great year (so far). Sustained cold froze the water inlet valve this year for the first time. Lines were drained and traps winterized so all drama subsided after an hour with no broken pipes. Shoveled 18″ off the deck for a Bistecca Florintine giant steak one night and baby back ribs the next!

ParticipantThanks — awesome video compilation! We also live on Chumash and have caught a few of these guys, but not nearly as good as this. It’s an amazing teeming ecosystem we have out there, right in our “backyard”.

ParticipantThis is a link to a video I put together from my wildlife camera that I have had in the woods east of Chumash and Shoshone. Ignore the dates on film, these are all from Apr 2015- Dec 2015 except the cougar from July 2014. Enjoy. Lots of wildlife out there.

ParticipantThere was an inch or two of new snow overnight last night, with light snow expected throughout the day. Chain controls were off on Hwy 4 yesterday afternoon, but they’re on again from Arnold on up. Drive safely!

ParticipantCame down from Kenshaw to boards crossing today with AWD and snow tires. No issues but took it slow. Saw a few vehicles coming up the hill without chains and looked like they made the turn ok.

ParticipantWe live on Wikami and came up this morning in a 4Runner in 4 wheel drive, no chains, all weather tires. No issues. 3 foot frozen berm from plow operations. Observed a few other SUVs driving around neighborhood at low speed w/ no chains. Street is white w/ a thin sheet of packed sow and ice.

KeymasterWe have AWD and brand new snow tires on a Honda Pilot. Driving down and back up Boards Crossing to Kenshaw this morning there were a few squirrely spots but never got out of control. If I were driving front wheel drive, I’d definitely have out on chains.

ParticipantDo you recommend avoiding the steep hairpin turn on Boards Crossing even with snow tires and AWD? Thanks.
