Our neighbor used to have a lot of woodpeckers. He used some netting and it works great. Seems the woodpeckers are afraid of it and stay away. His cabin is brown so you can’t even see the netting unless you are up close. If you want any info about the netting, pm me and I will give you his phone number.
@airedog – What are you doing to help reduce further infestation?
I just filled up my portable propane tanks this morning (1/28/2014) and it was $3.04 a gallon without tax. Ebbetts Pass Gas.
There are skunks in BTV, but not as many as you probably have in the Bay Area. There was one on upper Moran road yesterday that had been run over. We saw it on our way to the dump.
I thought I saw one run under our neighbors deck a while ago. I started to go investigate and then I came to my senses (pun intended). Then we had one pop up on the “tree” camera about a month or so ago.
I did see a dead skunk on the road once,just as you were leaving Big Trees Park park on 4, just above Moran Road. I thought maybe it was the snow why we didn’t have any here, but I grew up in upstate NY, where it was plenty cold and snowy, and we had skunks there.
Likewise, we’ve been skiing 6 days this year….any day skiing is better than your best day working….go enjoy….but this picture would bring even more excitement to the 155 mile drive up to BV for us….what about y’all?

I saw a skunk in Arnold at the end of last summer. I don’t know if it was Pepe or Penelope. 😉

I haven’t seen any skunks in the Dorrington area, dead or alive, in 10+ years. I didn’t even realize that until you asked.

Has anyone encountered skunks in Big Trees? In the Bay Area there are many outside our house all the time. So far we’ve had three dog-skunks encounters and they’re not fun.
What about in Big Trees?

Definitely terrain is limited. While I would prefer grizzly bowl, what they have open is fun. I have been up 5 times and enjoyed each trip.
I’ve been up there tons this season. The snow making and grooming crew are doing a great job so far! Cub and Supercub are great for beginners.Great conditions for the beginners on the green runs! Plus, there aren’t many people. I agree with woodboatguy, Moke West does get a little old for the intermediate skier.
I’ve skied up there 5 times so far, the last time being Thursday the 23rd. The mostly man made snow on Moke West is good and seems to hold up well. Unless I’m skiing with someone, I get a little bored after about 10 runs. I think Cub Meadow would be good for the kids. Hopefully some real snow later in the week.
We had a consultation last Spring with Nate Berner a certified arborist. We have firs dying, as we learned due to the fir engraver beetle. He gave us a strategy to hopefully reduce further infestation especially of trees near the cabin. We really were impressed and it has been worth the reasonable consultation fee to save some trees.
