We’ve actually had some rain today. I’m pretty sure that the funnel at the bottom of the rain collector is clogged with pine needles 🙁

My reduced solid waste fee shows up on my property tax bill. I don’t recall getting a post card any more. At least I THINK the fee is reduced. I’m paying $112.50.

I have a gun safe at my primary residence. I bought the Big Horn safe from Costco and it is rated for 30 min. It cost $599 and they delivered it. It is a good size – they claim you can store 24 long guns. It has adjustable shelves to store handguns, etc.

One correction on a prior comment in this thread – there is no law stating that ammunition needs to be stored separately from guns. While this is a good safety measure, there is no law. Ammunition is not required to be locked up.

However, there is a law stating that firearms must be unloaded during transportation.

Maybe this is the same one that was terrifying Turlock a few weeks ago! It hasn’t been sighted in weeks now but because it attacked a few dogs and cats and was seen during daylight hours it caused quit a stir and caused a few lockdowns in neighborhoods. The drought is thought to be the cause of the big cats coming to the valley floor. Thanks for sharing…scarily beautiful.

Re – reduced solid waste rates:
A form from the county comes in the spring – used to be just a post card to fill out. I don’t remember if it is still a post card or a letter. Anyway, you sign attesting that the property is used less than 30 days per year. That includes any use, renters, friends coming up, etc.
Watch your mail – I have nearly tossed it out several times because it just looks like junk mail.

If a message is marked private, how does a person know who it’s for?

General comment on house fires: My father-in-law’s house burned to the ground in the Oakland hills fire of 1991. It was a three-story structure, that got reduced to 1′ of ash and some scrap metal. However, a few things that were under the garage and next to a concrete retaining wall survived. So, what makes it through a fire depends on the nature of the structure and where the items are located in it. Things in a area with a lot of fuel around it will get destroyed or thoroughly baked; items located where there is not a lot to burn will have a better chance; location may be more important than rating time.

I still have plenty of pine available for anyone interested. You will need a good size chainsaw to cut into rounds since the max diameter of the trunk is about 36″. Let me know if you are interested in some or all of this wood. Access is easy…right by our driveway.
