Wow- he was famous. I’m pretty sure I talked to him on the phone when he was a guest on KGO radio in the 70s. My mom knew I had an interest in radio and told me to call in. I think I asked for a qsl card. I might still have it around the shack. I didn’t get my license until ’92. Thanks for the info!

    Hi K6OAK,
You must be a ham operator! My wife’s father was Bill Orr, W6SAI, and he was well known in the ham world. He died in January 2001. 73s

    From MyMotherLode:
Burning is now allowed during the evening and early morning hours in Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties.

CAL Fire has lifted the suspension, effective today. Burning is allowed from 7pm to 8am. You must have a burn permit, and it needs to be deemed a permissive burn night by the local air pollution control districts. Tonight is a permissive burn night.

Cooler temperatures have diminished the threat of wildfire, and more rain is in the forecast later this week.

It is noted that property owners could still be held liable if a fire escapes their control. Piles can be no larger than four ft. in diameter.

I had ash away out a couple weeks ago to clean 3 chimneys. They were last cleaned about 15 years ago. He said they didn’t need it, less than 1/8″ of soot and replaced 2 caps instead. vey honest. set for yearly fall roof blow off of pine needles.

Accept it, and pay it. What are your alternatives?
I come up to my place about 6 times/year. Besides the water rates, AT&T runs about 32$/month (about 4 phone calls/year. No dependable cell phone coverage). Solid waste – $112/year – I get the reduced rates because I don’t use the place more than 30 days/year- for maybe 4 bags of trash per year. Such are the costs of having a place up here. Everybody has to share in the cost of having the infrastructure in place. Sure, part timers pay proportionally more than full time residents, but it is my choice how often I use the services.

Bear in mind that aside from actual use, there is aging infrastructure that needs to be repaired and replaced.
So, yes Bertha, please fix the infrastructure and bring it up to modern standards before somebody gets sick.

I think we’ve been paying this extra bit for a while, but I agree about the KY. $109 is a lot to pay when my average daily use is 1 gallon.

I’ve been using Ash Away for over 10 years. Our cabin is in the cabbage patch area so the snow regularly crushes chimney caps. Ash Away has always been easy to work with and prompt in their servicing. And great cleaning services, too. Our old wood cookstove never worked so well after then thoroughly cleaned it several years ago. No more smokey morning trying to light the fire!

Yes, it is a Cal Trans facility. You’re right, the current buildings are set back from the cabins, and their height is much lower. We’ve never had a problem with Cal Trans as a neighbor. We hear some back-up beeping occasionally, but it’s a welcome sound during snow storms. Unfortunately, this building was not subject to public review. No notices, no planning review, not the usually process for a building permit. It’s in the county, but it’s owned by the State, which doesn’t need to conform to County regulations. The County was not contacted relative to this project.
Assemblymember Frank Bigelow and State Senator Tom Berryhill are assisting in our effort to mitigate the building with landscaping.

Liberty safes in san jose and Bass Pro shops in Manteca have safes. Costco has them too online and in the stores sometimes and will deliver too

Tat – you’re doing what? Assuming there’s enough wet smoke coming up your chimney to cause significant build up on your cap, the cap will be the least of your concerns (and I’m not even going to comment on your cleaning methods). As a neighbor, I’d strongly suggest you get a chimney sweep in there sooner than later before your (inevitable) chimney fire affects some of the rest of us too.

Is that your resident midget, Tom, standing in front of it to make it look tall? Sorry , joke is not politically correct. We do sympathize as we have similar concern regarding the lot next to us, on the highway side, is owned by Sierra Pacific all the way to the fire house. Before building we confirmed it is zoned Forest / logging. The county lady said no construction allowed with that zoning but we all know things can change. Same with the nice forest behind us. SP all the way to the River. I suppose you have seen the tree markings. Wishing you both the best for the Holiday Season…. Don and Arline Hardy

I have had a good experience with the red store too. Their prices are much lower.
