We installed standard gutters over our garage door in 2000. As noted above they were a pain to keep clean. Four years ago I replaced the old gutters with Byers Leaf Guard gutters. They are great. I have never had a clog. And the snow slides over the top of them. Check them out at:

You might want to re-consider. We originally put them on our place when we built in ’93. It was a continuing nightmare trying to keep the needles from plugging up the downspouts. Tried all types of contraptions but nothing really did the trick, which meant that eventually the gutters started to rot out. Took down all the gutters several years ago and never looked back…..

I’m considering installing rain gutters around part of my cabin. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what works best up here with our winter snow and freezing temps? Also, does anyone have any experience with installers to pass on ?

    Thank You.

Instead of “eliminating” the coyote(s) why don’t you report these neighbors to California Fish and Game.
Coyotes can only be killed in the instance of an imminent threat to public safety. The best non lethal thing to do is carry a handheld air horn to scare them off. Using negative stimuli is your best deterrent. Coyotes are curious by nature, and attacks on humans are very rare.
Many people unintentionally feed coyotes by leaving pet food or garbage out at night or having large bird feeders. Coyotes are usually not interested in bird food, but bird feeders often attract rodents, especially squirrels, which then attract coyotes. People should understand the differences between true threats and coexistence. It is important to stress that our relationship with coyotes is directly affected by our behavior, coyotes react to us, and we can foster mutual respect or a lack of respect through cues we send to them.

or, perhaps call Calaveras County Animal Services and ask them if feeding coyotes is legal in our county.

DFG seems to indicate that laws vary between communities.

You might want to call the California Fish and Game or the police. I would be surprised if feeding coyotes is legal.

We have several neighbors that are feeding the coyotes, this is a Huge problem for us as we have two small dogs, one being a 8 week old. We have had the coyote’s stalk our little Terrior in the middle of the day. I was yelling at the coyote and it didn’t even phase the coyote. First off nobody should ever feed wildlife. Unfortunately I am now forced to eliminate the threat these coyote’s pose on my dogs and us. This is a extremely difficult option for us to take but we won’t have our dogs eaten on our property.

It is supposed to be 500ft from ANY structure and in a safe way, but that doesn’t matter up here.
It is rumored that even the owner of our local gunstore had the police called on him because he was shooting out the back door of his business…

If Dye can’t get to you this year, can he in the spring or does it have to be done before the snow flies?

Ive used a few of the names mentioned, and for the price, and the detail Dye does, you really can’t go wrong…

He even stopped by a few after he did my deck to make sure it was drying properly..

Everyone will have their own people, but in my years up here, Ive remodeled two homes, and these are the people I use.

    General contractor- Berger construction 770-0222
painting, stains or drywall repair-Dye painting- 480-3738
    Roscelli roofing-770-7256

John Dashner for land maintenance and Twinkle for windows…

Many if not all the others have either let me down when it come to quality, or just didn’t show up.

My memory is not nearly what it used to be, but aren’t there rules about using firearms within the development in our CC&R’s?

I spoke to Sheriffs office in July. Shooting is allowed but needs to be 200 yards from nearest residence. At the time there was shooting going on at the bottom of Indian Rock/Sierra Pkwy hundreds (thousands) of rounds going off. Not illegal, unless too close to homes.
