I am very interested by this thread, both from the standpoint of the “prowler” as well as the technology. Are these cameras described self-installed, or is there a security service (Signal Service?) that can upgrade my basic security alarm to this level?
    Thanks for any info.

Brian: I walked by your place again tonight ~5:30. There were 4 vehicles in/near the driveway. I assume you are in residence…at least for the weekend!

As I understand it, the person who starts the topic (in this case you) can read the private message as long as you are logged in. If you are not logged in, you can’t read it. If there is something else you need to do, I assume Techman will post. I posted private, and in the post gave you our flat land phone number that we don’t want posted for the world to see. Sorry for the confusion.

I have never received an answer to a question that’s marked as private. What am I supposed to do?

Bought my 28 inch Stihl at Guy’s Saw Center several years ago on Highway 88. They are well known in the area and I still buy new chains from them. I’m not sure about Ebbetts Pass Lumber but I would give them a try before driving over to Guy’s Saw Center. There used to be a place down the hill called “Terry’s” that worked on all kinds of stuff, but they are gone now.

I just coiled up the hose to my central vac, and being exhausted I decided to go to the computer to check out Big Trees. Pretty funny to see central vac as a topic!
I made this a private message since most people would not want to read my rambling and furthermore I can give you a phone number without posting it to the world at large. (209)565 1010. We do not have a central vac at our cabin. We do have one at our home in Stockton. I love it. Some suggestions: Make sure to get the hose that has the electric cord integrated into it. I had the kind with a separate cord in another house and was constantly either tripping over the cord or getting it tangled in the hose. My new one has only about two feet of electric cord loose from the hose — just enough to plug it into an outlet near the vac outlet. If you have carpeted stairs there are TERRIBLE air driven stair cleaning attachments. There is a GREAT electrically driven one that I would hate to be without (considering the size of my shedding monster.) If you need to know more I will investigate the brand name. By the same token, you want the carpet cleaning attachment to be electrically driven, not just air driven. The system we have was already here when we moved in – I just bought a new hose and attachments (over the internet), but if I was designing a system from scratch, I would be sure to put the little vent in the kitchen baseboard (can’t remember its name) that allows you to use the vacuum suction rather than a dust pan when you are just doing a sweep of the floor with a broom. It would be handy to have – especially with a lot of dog hair! I know nothing about installing a system in a completed house. All our tubing was put in before the drywall went up. Our main unit is in the garage which is nice because almost all the noise is out there. Fairly quiet vacuuming inside the house so consider noise when you decide where to put the main unit. It is LOUD. Anxious to hear how it works out for you. Good luck. Feel free to call or email with questions. Valerie

We have a typical Vern Peterson chalet and are thinking of adding a central vacuum system. Has anyone gone that route and what are the pluses ansd minuses?
    Thanks steve

Please don’t anyone laugh, but I installed fake cameras, along with a sign indicating that the property is monitored. They can be had on Amazon for about $12.00. I did initially install Vuezone cameras, more to look at snow conditions for my driveway and deck. However, they lasted about 5 years and went out.

Thanks ndamico and ebaker. Yeah it is the same guy from last year and I am pretty sure he is at the house on Meko with all the vehicles and dogs.

Lets all keep an eye out for each other. My cabin # is 795-7338. Feel free to call anytime.

    Thanks

I bought a snowblower that hadn’t run in years and still ran like crap after putting in clean fresh gas and carb/injector cleaner. I figured a carb overhaul was in my future and those things scare me. As a last resort figuring I had nothing to lose, I bought some stuff at Home Depot called Mechanic In a Bottle. It claimed it could raise engines from the dead. I followed directions and let it sit and do its work overnight. The next day, the engine ran fine and continues to after 3-4 years. I think for about $4, its well worth a try for the chainsaw.

Did the saw run well on the last use? If so, dump the old gas, get fresh 91 octane and mix with a good quality two stroke oil at 50:1, change the plug if fouled, clean the air cleaner. If you do these things it should run again.

    Let us know.

I think the problem is that if there are different people Walking around our neighborhood then we have to execcice a certain level of concern.

If I ever get a shot of a guest stacking firewood or sweeping a deck, cameras will have been worth the trouble.

A couple months ago, I asked the Stihl guys at Arnold Ace to sort out my chain saw with running issues. Great results! I walked into the store with it, walked out 20 minutes later with a fixed saw. No charge! Later, they did a great job sharpening 4 chains for me. Couldn’t be happier. I think the Stihl guys at ACE are working hard to build the clientele, and it’s paying off. Nice selection of Stihl tools, too, but be ready for a shock if you haven’t seen the Stihl prices lately. Wow!
