KeymasterHey Neighbors, in case you hadn’t heard, Tommy’s back yard is open and their first concert is tonight!
Plan B, a local favorite will be playing Rock, Blues, and Oldies.
Starts around 6:30.rswheeler1
ParticipantI’ve done that hike a LOT beginning when I was 13 (I’m now 72). Deer hunting and fishing mostly. Years ago the fishing was wonderful, and the brook trout were delicious. I don’t think there are any more fish in the lake because it has silted in and freezes all the way to the bottom. There may be fish in the stream below the dam.

ParticipantWhile I am in total agreement that the Yellow pages distribution to the BTV community was nothing short of a moronic move, I took a bit of a different approach. I am sure sending the books back to Kuan makes a point and I certainly commend the level of effort. For my part, I simply collected a number of the books while out walking the dog (note…there were 3 books at a driveway to a vacant lot) and dumped them in with my recycled paper…done deal. This situation is certainly an annoyance but I can not justify my time and expense to mail them back. I will save my efforts for issues that have significant implications…just my opinion and in no way is meant to be derogatory to other approaches.

ParticipantI had to take it to the post office, have Paula weigh it and send it media mail. If it was a letter or package that would fit in the out box, than maybe so. I have received letters before (not very often) with “postage due” but never anything but a letter or small package that weighs more than the postage put on it. The box I sent the phone books in was HUGE. Should fit nicely on Dave Kaun’s desk. 🙂

ParticipantTo late now, but I think if you had not put all the postage on the package, they would have to pay the additional postage.

ParticipantI sent the 16 pounds of Valley Yellow Pages yesterday (Thursday) back to Fresno. Actually they weighed 15 pounds according to the post office scale. Sent them “parcel post” (media mail) for $9.25. Maybe I should send them a bill!

ParticipantGood news!!!!! I hooked up my old network extender, had to wait about 20-30 minutes for all the lights to turn blue, then successfully used my cell phone! I was getting impatient and almost gave up, but it finally worked. The power and WAN light turn blue right away, of course. The GPS light started solid red, then blinking red, then finally blue after about 5-10 minutes. The SYS light started solid red, then blinking red/blue. It stayed in this state for about 20 minutes before finally turning solid blue!

ParticipantIt’s my understanding that it can be used on all dogs however I have seen operator injury result it was attached to my neighbor’s Great Dane.

ParticipantLostbruce, is this some kind of tracking collar? I have a Sport Dog GPS collar for one of my big dogs, but my wife has two small dogs (about 7 1/2 pounds each). Will this high tech gadget work on small dogs?

ParticipantThanks. Do you know who to contact to change my address? I called someone once and they said it was taken care of. OK, great but I don’t think it is. I also told the county our address is up here now and they said it was taken care of too. But there seems to be a communication gap between the county and whoever send out the bills! No problem with my property tax bill though! 🙂

ParticipantThere is a new high tech gadget that helps dog owners keep track and control their dogs so that the dogs, the owners and local widllife don’t get hurt. It’s called a “Leash”, prounounced “L-E-A-S-H”. Let me know if you need a demonstration.

ParticipantRecent article on Gizmodo on coyote safety:
http://indefinitelywild.gizmodo.com/how-to-keep-your-pets-safe-from-coyotes-1586728445/+barrettCoyotes are like scary intelligent. They will often prey on dogs by one member of a pack luring a dog to chase it, then it will lead the dog to the rest of the pack.
They were very active in the area during the drought of the late 80s to early 90s. A number of times I would encounter cat (and once dog) parts in the open area behind my cabin near the park. With the current drought I expect more will be moving into developed areas in search of food and water, so be sure not to leave either out.Bootstrap
ParticipantWe received our bill in late March and it was due in mid April. Our last name starts with B.

ParticipantLate May, we attempted to hike Woodchuck Basin but lost the trail due to lingering snow. Three weeks later, the snow has melted and the wild flowers are out in bloom. While googling WB info, I came across the wonderful video that was posted by none other than our own Big Trees Tech Joe. This is a grand little hike and I highly recommend it.

ParticipantThis morning (Thursday) my dogs tried to attack a coyote pup on Hokan Circle. I run them around the circle in the mornings with my scooter. They are large dogs so I’m not worried about them being attacked, but this morning I heard a very loud squealing and spotted a coyote. I’m pretty sure it’s the same one with the pups that was near Highway 4 on Ottawa a month or so ago.
One of my dogs wears a GPS collar and both dogs usually stick together. I found both of them attacking a coyote pup and the mother coyote was whaling away. I managed to get my dogs away from the pup long enough for it to run into a culvert.
So if you are near Hokan Circle, I would suggest being careful with small dogs or cats. The coyote didn’t seem aggressive, but rather protecting its pups.
Attached is a map of Hokan Circle and the area where I saw the mother coyote and the area where my dogs tried to attack the pup. PLEASE remember these coyotes are in their natural habitat and should NOT be harmed.
