I was there on Thursday, Aug 23. The smoke wasn’t bad.

The fishing at Lake Alpine was bad. Lots of fish on the fish finder, but they wouldn’t bite. Caught 1 small one.

I too wanted to water a few things at my place. See attached photo. Here is a description top to bottom of what I did:
Top: “Frost free hose bib” (use this term to search Amazon) that turns off the water inside the wall. It includes a back flow preventer.
Splitter: Allows timer on one side, hose on other
Timer: Runs on 9V battery, choose day(s) of the week, time to start, length of time, etc.
Pressure Reducer: 30 psi for drip system
Splitter: Hose goes to one location far away, drip line goes to location close by.

In winter I remove the entire assembly, as well as the hose. Then I cover the hose bib with a foam cover for insulation.

With a simple system like this you would only need the plumber to install the hose bib.

I would just call a plumber to install the hose bib and shut-off valve so you can drain it in winter. I have my plants on a system, and I bought the timer unit (including back flow prevention) from the hardware store. I use a full-size drip hose, rather than the narrow individual dripper system I use in the Bay Area. The full-size hose drains better when I take it down in winter, and is more robust when deer and other animals run over it.

Best to get a system where you can water every other day for when the drought measures come back. Even with minimal water, I love the way so many of our natural plants have sprung up within reach of the hose — baby oak and cedars, white thorn, wildflowers, etc.

We’d like to install a small single-zone irrigation system just to water the beds around the patio of our cabin in BTV. Does anyone know of someone in the area who could do that? The job will require installation of a new outside hose bib from an existing water line (in an exterior wall nearby), then the irrigation and shut-off valves, back flow preventer and timer. I can do the distribution lines and spray heads.

I know landscape irrigation isn’t too common up in BTV, and we’ve been hand watering stuff, but it would be nice to have something that would keep things watered when we can’t make it up there.

Here’s a recent addition to our neighborhood, Indian Rock Road near Lower Hangtree Trail. Broad daylight. When approached, heard to say “Love those unprotected plastic trash cans!” We’ll be as popular with them as Tahoe soon.

I’m considering a similar project. I looked it up on Yelp and found a locksmith in Camp Connell with good recommendations.

However, I left a voicemail 2 weeks ago and never got a response. Does anyone know if Carefree Lock and Key still exists? The next closest one I found is in Sonora.

We need to replace several dead bolts at our house and re-key the remaining doors. Can anyone recommend a reliable locksmith?

How is the smoke this morning? If bad, does it dissipate later in the day?

Smoke is gradually getting better but depending on wind, etc, it still can get quite unpleasant.

I moved from ATT Cell to Verizon after the new tower went up. I moved my ATT landline number to my cell (at no cost) since no one had my old cell number. You can also move your old ATT landline to Comcast voip service at virtually no cost when bundled with wifi.

mtndad makes a good point about checking cell service. Verizon put in a tower about 1000 feet from me on Hoopa Circle. I believe the tower is on Bigfoot Circle near the water tanks. Google earth shows it.
