I'm with you on this Flyfishr.  We try to do groceries, hardware, auto parts and some dinners in town.
If these places go away our local government will find a way to get that tax money from us anyway we might as well spend it ourselves.  I'm still smoken that Big Trees folks let Lube Room slip away.
Camp Connell folks are great and fun to go to  but Lube Room had the cool factor and we just don't have a lot of that up here.

Follow-up regarding encryption of Limited Basic channels – I found on an old e-statement from Comcast that our area will have encryption turned on as of September 17. As of that day no TV channels for you unless you have a Comcast device connected!

If it is an act of reprisal against a lot inspector then there could be other issues to consider.

Are the lot inspectors, though volunteers, by extension acting on behalf of the State?

If so, then perhaps this could be considered more than just a misdemeanor.

If this is not dealt with in a more public way then it will be difficult to get others to volunteer in the future.

I have installed a few systems.

Once you learn how to do port forwarding and static ip setups it's not so bad.

I find its harder to run wiring. My wife agrees so I will be putting 4 cameras. Will be nice to check driveway and have peace of mind.

    before the winter starts.

Good point Fly. A few bucks more. Several other benefits:  employment, tax revenue, multiple menu choices you don't get at home, no shopping, set-up and clean-up, etc….We'll try to go out more often.

We never received a letter from Comcast telling us they were going to encrypt the clear QAM local HD channels we had been getting all this time but we did just receive a "free" DTA (Digital Transport Adapter) [Standard Definition only] brought by UPS. Three hours of phone calls to Comcast later we found out they are encrypting all the local channels on Limited Basic soon (conflicting info on when – ether mid-September or mid-October ) and we got them to send us 3 free HD-DTAs that we will need to install on our TVs to get past their encryption. Free for two years then $1.99 ea every month after that…

If this is an act of reprisal for inspection related issues, then it would follow that it was done by a fellow property owner.  That would be harder to swallow than mischievous delinquency.
Perhaps a flyer posted in some high traffic areas asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff's department.
Someone must be hearing something about this.

I have had a number of excellent meals there.  I like how the menu varies often, and have never been disappointed with their dinners.
There are a number of very good restaurants in our area, but they need the support of us weekenders in order to survive.  We have lost a lot of excellent restaurants in the area due to lack of business  – Tallihan's, the Weather Station, Blue Coyote, and the restaurant and Lube Room at the Dorrington hotel to name a few.  C'mon people, give the local businesses some support. It might cost a couple of bucks more than preparing meals at home, but worth it to keep the local businesses alive.

I just finished hooking up a security camera and will say that it was a chore because I ddon'ta understand network activity very well.  Bottom line is that it works ans i may even add some cameras down the line.

Tonight I talked my wife into a set of outdoor camera security system.

Especially  that graffiti picture and I want to keep an eye on the snow level.

It's the only way to protect yourself.

We drove by on the way to the dump. They did a number on it with spray paint. I talked to the wife and they think it might be someone that's not happy with lot inspections. I guess her husband is involved with the inspections. They were home when it happened but sleeping and didn't hear anything. The car was in the garage which might be good or might be bad. I have a hunch the culprits didn't think anyone was home and if the car would have been out they might not have graffiti'd the place. On the other hand, they might have gotten the car if it was left out. They called the sheriff but the sheriff didn't think there was much chance of catching the culprits. Hard to believe we have people like the graffiti bandits up here. I took a picture.

We love this place for breakfast. We had dinner there and had too much raw garlic in every dish. We will go back. I think the previous chef left who was awesome.

We noticed a house on Pawnee, left hand side going down the street, that someone did a number on with white paint.  They even included the trees.

Does anyone know what happened there?  I hope we, as a community, are not going to be urban victims of the terrible act.

No, I haven't seen it or heard about it but I hope whoever did it gets caught soon. I'll drive by tomorrow and take a look out of curiosity. Hopefully whoever is doing this screws up one time and tries it on a home with surveillance cameras.

OK, back to the negative… :D
We have Comcast Basic TV and connect directly to the incoming cable without any box.
That way we are able to get all the stations in high def, though on different channels.

Well, we just got a notice that starting in mid Sept, Comcast will be scrambling the Basic Cable, so we will have to use their digital converter and lose our high def picture…….unless, of course, we want to rent THEIR  high def equipment every month… ::)

We have basic cable without using a cable box too. Did they say when they were going to start scrambling basic cable? I'm going to miss HDTV. Guess I might dump cable TV and watch only streaming video from Netflix and Amazon. Too bad I have to keep Comcast's ridiculously overpriced Internet.
