Sandi has a great point. I was going to go up to assess the damage to the cabin but called Sandi instead and she provided a wonderful service. She was able to go by my place and fully assess if the downed trees had caused any damage to the property. Thanks, Sandi.

Please stay safe and stay home. As much as I know you would like to come up to your place right now the smart thing is to shelter in place. Last weekend it was like a holiday weekend at our one grocery store, gas stations, banks and pharmacy. Anyone of you can can pass the virus to anyone of us and we just don’t have the resources here to handle that. I especially worry about our elderly, retired population.

I applaud the owners and real estate companies for taking their vacation rentals off the market. It would be irresponsible to advertise a rental as a place to go right now.

If you are worried about your place, just give me a call or text and I will check on it for you. I want to provide peace of mind in our little piece of paradise. With love and respect: Sandi of SierraSentry.

    Joe,
I just got a chance to look at the pics you sent. Thanks so much for this. It looks like a lot of the snow on the side opposite of where the electrical line attaches was disturbed and wondering if you could tell if any of the trees actually hit that side. Trying to get up there ASAP but stuck in the bay trying to coordinate things at work during the shutdown. You were right, I have quite a mess.

Still no ATT landline or Comcast at our place. All our utilities were put underground when the place was built back in 81’. The pole that they come from is across the street on Wikami. That pole broke off half way down sometime early morning on 3/16 when the top of a nearby tree snapped off and came crashing down on the lines.
A couple days ago PGE replaced the pole and transformer and restrung power lines but they did not reattach the Comcast or ATT lines and in fact, left the junction boxes tied up in a tree on the other side of the road from the pole. Now, having gotten a few more inches of snow and more to come, I suspect we’ll be without Comcast and ATT for awhile longer.

I agree with Kenshawnewby. Thanks Joe for keeping this valuable website running.

Regarding AT&T land line. I’m near the intersection of the end of Sierra Parkway and the end of Indian Rock. Our land line is working now and has been working since the beginning of storm with the exception of one day. And amazingly, my land line works even though the big AT&T cable is hanging down close to the ground on several places along Sierra Parkway due to several snapped power poles. It is a testament to the old Ma Bell engineers of a century ago who designed a simple and resilient system.

On Sunday, 3/15/2020, at around 11:30 in the morning, we lost power, Comcast, and ATT landline in our area of Big Trees Village. Not long after that, Verizon cellular went out as well. The storm kept dumping heavy wet snow and by Monday we had snapped power poles and down power lines all over our area. For more description see the “Dorrington is a mess” thread.
Power was finally restored in our area of BTV yesterday morning, 3/23/2020. However, we still have no Comcast internet nor ATT landline. ATT has said they hop to restore service tomorrow so hopefully, Comcast will come on around the same time.
The weather and camera data used on BigTreesTech rely on a high speed internet connection so hopefully, those components of the site will be back on line soon. In the mean time you can continue to use the forum and other links on the page.
One last thing… it is much more difficult to administer the site using a mobile device and impossible without good interconnection so that will also have to wait a bit longer.
    Stay safe and stay healthy,
    Joe

I also live close to Sierra Parkway and Shoshone and as of today my power was on but no Comcast. Now as of 8pm my Comcast is back on! It has been a long 8 days but all is good

Horray, the cameras are up and running again. When I called Comcast this morning for tech support, the recording told me that Comcast was in my area fixing problems.
I am in the 3000 block of Shoshone.

Called PG&E today and logged a ticket with them letting them know that the power line to my property might be damaged. They said that they’d check the line during power restoration to see if there was any damage to the line where it meets the house. Also, they’d call me back to let me know if everything was ok. I’ll update this thread as soon as I hear back.

I have an updated email from PG & E. 75 customers are without power, they are still working to solve the problem, no estimated time.
About alerts, I get an emergency alert on my iWatch, iPhone, plus, the emails.
I really like the one on my iWatch,(for emergency alerts) as it does a little vibrating thing to alert me to check, it keeps vibrating until I click on it.

I want to thank Sandi from Sierra Sentry for driving by our cabin yesterday and taking a snapshot to let me know everything looks good from the outside
On another note, I received a text saying they thought power would be restored by 6 p.m this evening.
Thanks for all you do Sandi for the people up here.
