Most likely cables used for hauling cut trees from where er were cut to where they were processed to be trucked or trained out of the forest. They might also be broken cables that they use for strapping the trees down on the logging trucks.

So what are the rusty cables poking through ground around the area? We’ve got some in our crawl space, I see them in SPI land, I see them at Lake Alpine. They are 1-2 inches in diameter, a twisted rope of metal cable. Anyone know their origin?

Thanks. I just ordered the book. I really hate it when the shipping charge is higher than the item you’re buying. Grrrrrrrrr. Book is $3.50. Shipping is $4.50. Forgot what tax was.

And here is the photo of what I think is a fox but, don’t really know. Why can’t these guys sit still and come by during the day?

Omg thank you! I am going to buy this! I tried to plant poppies too, but they didn’t do well. I’m always taking pictures of the wild flowers, so I can plant them & nobody ever knows what they are.
    So thank you!!!

I know this is not want you want to hear, but we have tried seeds and potted poppies (purchased form Ace) without any luck (5000′)
I also planted these in a very sunny area.

Does anyone have experience planting California (or similar) poppy seeds at this elevation? I remember seeing some blooming at Sourgrass a few years ago but don’t know if they have successfully reseeded themselves since then. My lot gets plenty of sun. The package says to sow in spring in severe winter areas but if they can reseed themselves would I be better off planting seeds now? Thanks!

The photos were taken with a bushnell trail camera. If your not familiar with these, they save the pictures on an SD card. It can be set to take short videos as well. Our property backs up to SPI land not too far from the rec center. The bear was caught on camera in early August and the bobcat was in early September. The coyote comes around every so often.

Bear Valley Ski Resort will open. The general manager Jim Gentling and another manager spoke to the homeowners of BTV over Labor Day. They said that even if the deal fell through, they were going forward with business as usual. Primary reason being that it is much harder to sell this type of property if it is not operating.
