Two important components arrived today. One was the 3/4″ -14 NPS die I needed to couple the sensor to standard 3/4″ PVC or steel pipe.
$50 for this thing and it took 5 minutes to modify a threaded PVC fitting to fit perfectly with the sensor. Worth the price knowing that I can now create a water tight connection to the sensor. (and the $50 came from generous contributions to the site!)
The other component is a 100 ft stretch of direct bury CAT5 Ethernet cable that I will be using to connect to the sensor when I move it outside and mount it to the snow pole.
The other big accomplishment of the day is that I believe I have completed all the programming needed to incorporate the snow measurements into the existing weather system. The first incarnation is going to be a bit kludgey, and may not even work at first but I’m at the point that I can start testing.
Speaking of testing… I am going to wait until after the current storm system passes and will hopefully have things running before the next system comes in early next week.
